OUR STORY
Light, Made by Hand.
Lumen Atelier began in a small Cape Town studio with one printer and a question: what happens when you treat a lamp shade like a sculpture instead of a fixture.
Founder portrait in the workshop — natural light, ceramic bases on shelving behind
Every piece we make starts the same way: a question about how light should feel in a particular room, at a particular hour. Sculptural 3D printing lets us chase that answer in ways a mould never could, layer by layer, until the form is exactly right.
We're still a small team. Every shade is printed to order in our own workshop, and every base is cast, sanded and sealed by hand before it ever reaches you. Nothing leaves the studio until someone has held it and been satisfied.
MILESTONES
How We Got Here.
Studio founded
Started in a spare room with a single 3D printer and a stack of sketches.
First collection
Helix and Facet launched — our first sculptural table lamps.
Workshop opens
Moved into our current Cape Town workshop, adding hand-finishing in-house.
Bespoke program
Opened custom commissions for architects, designers and private clients.
We wanted lighting that felt considered from every angle, not just switched on. That's still the only brief we give ourselves.
